summer school 2026- drawing space
A 5-week online creative group for home-educated young people (autism friendly)
Tuesdays, 6:00–7:15pm (UK time)
21 July – 18 August
A calm, supportive online space to draw, explore and connect.
What this group offers
This 5-week online drawing group is designed for home-educated young people aged 10–18 who may benefit from a gentle, structured creative space alongside others.
Each session offers time to draw, explore simple prompts and connect in a way that feels comfortable. The emphasis is not on producing finished work, but on creative process, self-expression and being part of a small, supportive group.
Alongside this, participants will have opportunities to collaborate and develop digital drawing skills, using platforms such as Procreate or Adobe Fresco, with optional resources provided to support exploration.
The sessions are shaped by my experience as both an artist and creative mentor, and are designed to support:
confidence
wellbeing
a sense of agency
connection through shared creative activity
Digital drawing and creative development
Participants are invited to explore digital drawing in a flexible and accessible way.
This may include:
creating simple brushes
experimenting with layers, textures and backgrounds
working with digital collage using artist-provided resources
combining observation with digital mark-making
These elements are introduced gently and are completely optional, allowing participants to engage at their own pace.
The focus remains on: → exploration rather than technical mastery
→ process rather than outcome
How sessions work
Sessions take place weekly on Zoom and follow a consistent, predictable structure:
a calm arrival and settling-in time
a clear, simple drawing prompt
extended quiet making time
optional sharing (verbal, chat or visual)
a gentle closing
Participants are welcome to engage in whatever way feels comfortable.
There is no requirement to:
speak
share work
have cameras on
Parents or carers are very welcome to be present alongside their child, or to join using the same link if that feels supportive.
Approach and environment
The group is designed to be:
low-pressure and non-judgemental
predictable and consistent
sensory-aware and calm
flexible in how participants engage
I place a strong emphasis on holding a safe, respectful space where young people can take part at their own pace.
Creativity is supported through:
open-ended prompts
repetition and familiarity
time to explore
working alongside others rather than being observed

This group may be suitable for young people who:
are home educated

may find in-person groups challenging

benefit from consistency and clear expectations
would like to connect with others through shared activity
No prior experience is needed.
